Wawasee gained another weekend of tournament experience with its girls roster in action at the Rochester Invite .
Wawasee placed in a tie for fourth with New Haven in Rochester. Hobart won the team title with 136 points, followed by Rochester (115), Western (100), wawasee and New Haven (73), Crown Point (66), Northfield (56.5) and Rensselaer Central (53).
For Wawasee, Kenidi Nine and Alex Garcia both won class titles, Nine going 3-0 at 145 and Garcia 3-1 to take 170. Nine ran off three straight pins to run the table in the 145 competitions. Garcia also scored pins in all three of her wins to take the 170 class, avenging a loss in round two to come back for the title.
Brooke Catron scored a pair of pins in her first two matches before losing by pin in the third, then rallying with another pinfall win in the fourth round to land third in the 145 class.
Deserae Vetor couldn’t generate a mat win in her two contests at Rochester.
“It was really good competition at the Rochester Girls Invite,” stated Wawasee coach Miguel Rodriguez. “Great job to these amazing young Lady Warriors! We had a complicated practice week due to team pictures, fall sports awards and an early Friday practice so we could support the boys as they (traveled to) Bellmont. But we made the best of every moment in the wrestling room to improve from last week and it showed on the mat today. Let’s keep improving and moving forward! Warrior Tough!”
