It’s not something Wawasee aims to brag about, but it is worth noting the program has a few wrestlers among the state’s elite this early in the calendar.
Five of the program’s competitors – three from the boys varsity and two of the girls – are ranked among the state per Indiana Mat.
Kaleb Salazar is state-ranked No. 5 at 106, and is ranked No. 1 for the East Chicago Semi-state per the latest accords.
Hunter Miller is ranked No. 13 at 152, and No. 3 for East Chicago.
Gavin Malone is ranked No. 7 at 160, and No. 2 for East Chicago.
Kenidi Nine is ranked No. 10 and Brooke Catron is ranked No. 12, both at 145, in the girls rankings which came out this week.
Wawasee also has Logan Stuckman (138 pounds, No. 9), Ethan Rodriguez (145, 7), Cameron Zimmerman (182, 8) and Donovan Blair (195, 5) also ranked in the East Chicago Semi-state polls. As a team, Wawasee is ranked No. 4 in the Nov. 21 East Chicago power poll, trailing Crown Point, Mishawaka and Penn, and began the season ranked No. 6 in the Class 2-A poll, which hasn’t been updated per Indiana Mat since it’s Nov. 1 release.
Wawasee will continue its dual path with a home meet against East Noble Thursday, Dec. 1, and participate in the Warsaw Super Duals on Saturday, Dec. 3.
