Cam Zimmerman and the Warriors look to continue keeping opponents on the mats with a pair of events to end the week.

Following an impressive weekend and a 5-0 output at the November Duals, Wawasee will look to keep it going at home this Thursday against East Noble before looking to the weekend at the Warsaw Super Duals.

OUR LAST STAND

Wawasee had plenty to take from the past weekend. Not only was it the first major series of work for the varsity, but there was conference gains with the dual against Warsaw. The Warriors had 11 individuals open the NLC season with a win, getting a jump start on conference seeding for January’s tournament. Saturday’s team wins came against Warsaw, Fairfield, North Miami, South Bend Washington and Fort Wayne South Side, the last two in perfect 84-0 results.

Every weight class for Wawasee had at least one forfeit win, and over a dozen competitors in mixed classes earned at lease one competition win at the Duals.

Logan Stuckman was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler of the Duals, going 5-0 (3-0 in duals) at 138 pounds and didn’t give up a defensive point the entire tournament in his three series’ of combat. Wawasee also had seven other unbeaten varsity wrestlers on the day.

WHAT’S TO COME

East Noble is set to compete at the Hardwood Teepee on Thursday. There isn’t much tape on the Knights, per Wawasee head coach Frank Bumgardner, and rightly so because East Noble hasn’t competed yet in 2022. The Knights first match is tomorrow (Wednesday, Nov. 30) against Northridge, which will put East Noble on only 24 hours of recovery heading into Thursday night.

“East Noble is not just another dual, they have been historically tough,” Bumgardner said following Saturday’s Duals. “We have to be locked in. That’s one that could be very challenging, even with the comforts of home.”

Bumgardner expects it to be a very long night Thursday, as East Noble will house a competent JV compliment as well as female wrestlers, allowing the Wawasee girls to get some weeknight work in for the first time this season after a pair of early season weekend tournaments.

Wawasee will then jump into Super Dual mode again with entry at the Warsaw Duals this Saturday at the T-RAC building on the campus of Warsaw Community High School. Pairings for Warsaw will be released later this week.
