As December quickly moves to a midpoint, both the Wawasee JV and girls rosters hit the road Saturday for a pair of invites.

The JV roster returned to the Hawks Nest at Goshen for the 48th annual Goshen JV Invite while the girls contingent headed over to LaGrange to take on the field at the Lakeland Girls Invite.

Over a dozen of Wawasee’s junior varsity contingent went to battle at Goshen, and five found themselves wrestling for titles in their respective weight class championships.

Rising to the occasion was Zeke Spore, who stood tallest in the 126 bracket after pinning Columbia City’s Eli Patrick in the title contest. Spore used two pins to get to the final, and was in total control of Patrick, taking an 8-0 lead after a period before finishing Patrick off at 2:47.

A quartet of others were also in championship matches, but all four found their fate via pin fall to their respective opponents. Luke Stuckman lost to East Noble’s Awad Awad at 106, Rielyn Brettell lost to DeKalb’s Will Armey, Ben Brace lost to Goshen’s Bryant Faustino-Ramirez and Alex Dibble lost to Fort Wayne Carroll’s August Adams. All four, on the other hand, reached the championship matches by recording pins.

Three of Wawasee’s seven competitors won a weight class title and a fourth added another first via default as the Lady Warriors continued to get more experience in the land of the teal anchor.

Brooke Catron laid control of her 138-pound final, taking East Noble’s Olivia Petrie for a fall at 1:05 to sweep the class. Kenidi Nine won all three of her contests, finishing off Angola’s Lana Keller with a reversal into a pin at 1:44 in the last match of the 145 bracket.

Alex Garcia had just two matches in the 182 grouping, both against East Noble’s Kaitlyn Leighty, and both ended in pins for Garcia to sweep the action.

Wawasee also sent out Olivia Hill at 285, taking the blue ribbon by default without anyone to wrestle.

Ciarra Rodriguez recovered from a loss in the semi-final of the 120 card against Neveah Wilson of Angola to pin Angola’s Emily Gollif 18 seconds into the second period. Annabelle Vetor and Rylin Vanlaningham both went 0-2 in their workload.
