As winter break rapidly approaches, there’s still plenty of work for Wawasee wrestling. The varsity hosted five quality opponents, including Northern Lakes Conference duals against Plymouth and Northridge, at the Wawasee December Duals, while the girls program continue to emerge with some valuable experience at the Central Noble Girls Invite.
At Wawasee
Tough finish to the day for the host Warriors, which not only lost the final three matchups of the day, but two of those were crucial Northern Lakes Conference contests.
The NLC losses to Plymouth in round three (47-22) and to Northridge in round five (39-32) sandwiched a loss to Norwell in round four (47-28). The two NLC ‘L’s effectively knocked Wawasee (1-3) out of the conference championship race with Mishawaka sitting at 4-0 and Plymouth now 4-1. Wawasee’s two wins to start the day came against Fort Wayne Luers (66-18) and Angola (52-30).
Both Cam Senter and Kaleb Salazar were 5-0 on the day, Senter with a pin, two decisions, a major and a forfeit to his credit and Salazar collecting two pins, a major and two forfeits. The trio of Ethan Rodriguez, Donnie Blair and Carson Nine each went 4-1 on the day, all three registering three pins and a major.
Alex Dibble started his day red hot with a pair of pins and Derek Morrison won his first three matches to the tune of two pins and a decision.
Plymouth went 5-0 on the day, followed by Northridge at 4-1. Norwell, Wawasee and Angola all went 2-3 and Luers was 0-5.

At Central Noble
Wawasee ramped up its output in Albion, with half of its participants landing in the top three of the bracketed invitational.
Highlighting Wawasee was Ciara Rodriguez at 118, taking first overall with a 4-1 day. Rodriguez had three pins and a decision among a busy top of the table. Rodriguez, Chatard’s Jillian Donnelly and Angola’s Emily Golliff all had four wins, but Rodriguez fit the criteria needed to get the posterboard.
Both Kenidi Nine and Cyanna Leon were also 4-1 in their five rounds of action, and both second place. Leon worked through the 139-41 bracket to the tune of three pins and a decision while Nine rocked four pins among her impressive day in the 135-38 bracket. Both only lost to their respective bracket champions that went 5-0, respectively.
The fourth to make top-three in the invitational was Karlee Clevenger in the 100 card, who went 3-2 overall. Clevenger started her day with three pins but struggled in her final two matches to settle in with the third-place ribbon.
Wrapping up Wawasee’s placers were Sylvia Dixon in fourth at 127, Dez Vetor fourth at 143-47, Tiana Senders fifth at 160-64, and Peyton Hohman sixth at 130.
