Just because the high school girls wrestling season is technically over, obviously doesn’t mean there isn’t work to be done.
Wawasee Wrestling Club took eight girls down to Franklin Central High School to compete in the Future Legends Folkstyle Tourney, a statewide showcase tourney for all ages and skill levels.
Here’s a quick breakdown of our eight, with their age bracket and weight class as well as how they fared within. Wawasee also brought Cobie’s little brother, Uriah, who also competed in the beginner division.
Uriah Rodriguez, Beg 8U, 49A
Rodriguez was 0-2 in the bracket, losing his opening round match as well as the consolation getback match to finish his day.
Cobie Rodriguez, 12U, 81-87
Rodriguez was 0-3 in her three contests in the four-girl grid at 81-87, sending her to fourth in the group.
Karlee Clevenger, 16U, 94-100
Clevenger, the last active girls in the Wawasee high school boys season as a 106 competitor at the Elkhart Sectional, recorded pins against both her opponents in the grid to finish first.
Hadley Faroute, 16U, 106-112
Faroute was 1-2 overall in her three matches, getting a win via pin sandwiched between two losses.
Peyton Hohman, 16U, 130
Hohman continued to get work in her rookie season of wrestling, losing both of her matchups against Lilly Culbreath in the two-person grid.
Kenidi Nine, 16U, 136-142
Nine was sharp in the bracket, winning all three of her matches by pin fall, all three of her victories in under two minutes. Nine was the bracket champion.
Naviya Leon, 16U, 136-142
Leon was 1-2 in the same bracket at Nine, her one win a pin against a Western opponent. Leon would finish third in the group.
Cyanna Leon, USA Jr., 145
Leon did not have another competitor in her weight class, so she double-byed her day and a default first place spot. Leon would compete in a trio of exhibitions, winning all three in convincing fashion.
Alex Garcia, USA Jr., 155
Garcia did not have another competitor in her weight class, so she double-byed her day and a default first place spot.
